We are living in a world today where the moral fabric of our society is rapidly deteroriating.  We see and hear it happening all around us in the daily news programs we watch, in our favorite television series we never miss, in movies we just have to see, in Internet sites we frequent, and even in social media feeds of some of our family and friends.

The sad reality is that not only do we see the steady decline of morality “out there in the world”, but also in our homes and in our churches.  However, even Peter saw this happening in the first-century church.  Christians were allowing the “corruption of the world caused by evil desires” (2 Peter 1:4), to lead them away from Jesus Christ.

The apostle assures his Christian readers that God has already equipped them with all the qualities needed to grow in their relationship with Christ and be more like Him.  Peter urges believers to use the spiritual resources that Christ makes available to them so they can “make their calling and election sure” (2 Peter 2:10).  In fact, the apostle goes on to write that “if you do these things, you will never fall”.
