SIGNS OF CHRISTMAS
Luke 2:11-12 and Isaiah 7:14
The SIGNS OF CHRISTMAS are everywhere.  Bright lights, decorations, Christmas trees, holiday songs, nativity scenes all point to the fact that Christmas is around the corner.  This time of year gets rather busy with all the shopping, cleaning, decorating, cooking, parties and family gatherings, etc.  And along with all the hustle and bustle of the holiday, “the reason for the season” can sometimes get lost or at least overlooked.
The “SIGN”that the angel told the shepherds to look for and that which the prophet Isaiah foretold was about a “BABY”–a baby who came from God born to a virgin.  This is the SIGN that should be most important to us during this holiday season.
However, this doesn’t mean that the signs of Christmas that are so prevalent this time of year need to overshadow the sign that God in the form of a tiny baby came to this earth to save us.   In fact, if we look for them, Jesus can be seen in the common elements of the season as listed above.
Luke 2:11-12
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Christ, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.
