THE CHURCH: SARDIS, THE DEAD/SLEEPING CHURCH
Revelation 3:1-6
Lifeway Research revealed that in 2019 over 4,500 churches closed while only 3,000 new churches were planted. According to the same study, 4,000 churches consistently close their doors each and every year. It’s no surprise that the church in America is on a decline; just look at the empty pews in churches across the country. We can surmise many reasons for the decline, but it all boils down to the fact that the majority of Christians who have left are no longer committed to Christ and His bride–the church.
The Glorified Christ addressed the church of Sardis who had a reputation of being alive, but was dead. Yet, Christ who can raise the dead, tells the Christians at Sardis that there is still hope for revival if they only give heed to His words. There is no church that Christ cannot revive through the Holy Spirit, if we only listen to and obey the counsel that Christ gives this church.
