SUMMER SERMON SERIES, 8/3/25
CHRIST’S CHOSEN: SIMON THE ZEALOT
Matthew 10:4, Mark 3:18, Luke 6:15, Acts 1:13 (selected passages)
Continuing the summer sermon series, CHRIST’S CHOSEN, this week we will study an apostle who’s only mentioned 4 times in the New Testament along with the rest of the apostles. We would know nothing about Simon (not Peter) if not for the description, “the zealot”.
This Sunday we will study a brief history of the formation of the zealots, a rebel resistance against the Roman Empire and those who collaborated with them–especially Jewish tax collectors who worked for the Roman government. As we have been studying throughout this entire series, Jesus choosing both a tax collector and a zealot to be His apostles emphasizes the transformative power that Christ can have even on the worst of enemies.
Come join us on Sunday as we delve into who the zealots were and what choosing Simon the zealot as an apostle means to us and our service to Christ.
