PUTTING SELF ON GOD’S THRONE
2 Corinthians 10:5; Daniel 4
We have all put ourselves on God’s throne at one time or another. Have you ever thought, “If I were God, I wouldn’t do it that way” or “If I were God, I wouldn’t condemn people for that”? Maybe it wasn’t just a thought but an action: “I know what God’s Word says about that, but I’m going to do it my way.” The “god of self” arises when we think we know better than God and do it our way or when we disagree with God and elevate our opinion over His Word.
Putting self on God’s throne can be subtle or blatant. Although we may be guilty of subtlety putting ourselves on the throne of our own hearts, King Nebuchadnezzar blatantly appointed himself Most High God. In fact, he demanded the people of his kingdom to worship him or be killed. But then he learned some hard lessons on what happens when one tries to dethrone the true Most High God.
2 Corinthians 10:5
We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
