CHRISTMAS AT THE MOVIES: MIRACLE ON 34th STREET
Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:18-25
This four-week Christmas sermon series explores the beauty and importance of the incarnation through the lenses of four classic Christmas films.  Although the films themselves present whimsical and fantasized stories about Christmas, there are Biblical lessons that can be gleaned from these beloved films.  Just as we find unexpected truth in these movies, we learn that the real Christmas story is the story of God working in unexpected ways in the pursuit of His people. The incarnation is a radical and essential doctrine because it teaches us the true heart of God for the redemption of His fallen creation.
This Sunday we will start this series with the movie classic, MIRACLE ON 34th STREET (1947 version).   As the movie reveals the struggle of an old man named Kris Kringle claiming to be Santa Clause, we will study about the One who was born to a virgin 2,000 years ago claiming to be “Christ, the Son of God”.   We will study His claims, and present Scriptural and Historical evidence that Jesus is indeed who He says He is.
Come join us Sunday as as we begin this series gleaning from four classic Christmas movies the true message of Christmas:  The coming of God as a tiny, helpless baby born in the manger to become the Savior of the World.
ISAIAH 7:14:
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

MATTHEW 1:18-25:This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
