LOVE VS THE SYSTEM'S STANDARD

SUNDAY LESSON, 2/16/25

LOVE vs THE SYSTEM’S STANDARD
John 13:34-35; 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a

This Friday is Valentine’s Day, a holiday recognized around the world as a day of romance and love.   According to Google AI, approximately 6 million people worldwide propose marriage each year on Valentine’s Day.    Countless couples celebrate their love for each other on this day.
However, the love that Valentine’s Day promotes is not the same love that Jesus and many of the New Testament writers refer to when they urge Christians to “love one another”.  Romantic love is great, but it is often sustained by certain conditions and standards being met.  Of the 2 million marriages that take place in the US each year, over 50% end in divorce primarily because of the unspoken standards and conditions placed on love for the other person that cannot be sustained.
Come join us Sunday as we study Jesus’ standard of love vs the system’s standard of love.
JOHN 13:34-35
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-8a
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails.
