SUNDAY LESSON, 3/20/22
LAST WORDS: “HERE IS YOUR SON…HERE IS YOUR MOTHER”
John 19:22-25
In the midst of agonizing pain and dealing with the jeers and taunts of his enemies, Jesus’ attention is turned to his mother. He wants to assure her that she will be loved and taken care of when He’s gone.
Mary was losing her first-born, and, undoubtedly, didn’t understand why. He is the Son of God after all, and God can do anything–even save her boy. Even though Jesus has a mission to finish, He wants to ensure His mom that she will be okay.
Family vs. serving the Lord. Jesus showed the importance of honoring your family while still honoring God.
Come join us Sunday as we gain greater understanding and insight into the third phrase of Jesus upon the cross: “Dear woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.”
JOHN 19:25-17
25 Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[a] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
