JESUS' LAST WORD: "IT IS FINISHED"

JESUS’ LAST WORDS: “IT IS FINISHED”
John 19:28-30

Jesus was only 33-years old when He died and, yet, He was able to say of His short life, “It is finished.”
Can we say the same about our lives?  If a young person dies, we tend to think, “He/she still had so much to do.”  And in many cases, when people are about to die in their old age look back and think of missed opportunities, unmended relationships, broken promises.  Their lives may be over, but there are usually so many things left unfinished.
The sixth statement Jesus said on the cross, “It is finished,” are powerful words that reveal that Jesus completed the work that the Father sent Him to do (John 17:4).   His finished work on the cross becomes ours through the grace of God our faith in His Son.
JOHN 19:28-30
28 Later, knowing that everything had now been completed, and so that Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, “I am thirsty.” 29 A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus’ lips. 30 When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
