IDOLS OF THE HEART: SELF
Daniel 4

Starting this Sunday through September, I will be presenting a 5-week sermon series that will help us recognize the idols that often displace God’s glory and allegiance of our hearts.
What keeps us from truly following Jesus Christ is that our hearts are pursuing something else like money, pleasure, relationships, etc.   While these pursuits may not be the ‘graven images’ of old, they are in fact modern day idols of the heart.  Behind the sin you’re struggling with, the fear you’re dealing with, the lack of purpose you’re living with is an idol that is trying to replace God.
It all begins with SELF.   The idol of self is manifested by one’s pride, disobedience, pretention, defiance, generally wanting our own way.  It is fueled by our “selfishness” of wanting to do things my way, despite what God wants.  All that matters is what makes me happy.
Come join us Sunday as we study from Daniel 4 how Nebuchadnezzar, the ruthless King of Babylon, tried to put himself in place of God to be worshipped, only to be humbled by God who will not be dethroned.
