HIGH COST OF FREEDOM
2 Timothy 2:1-4; John 15:12-14
This coming Sunday my focus will be on the HIGH COST OF FREEDOM as we remember and honor those military men and women who have paid the ultimate price to secure the freedoms that we enjoy in this country.
America is known around the world for its freedoms. It’s freedom of religion, of speech, and the freedom to assemble, just to name a few. We often hear around Memorial Day when we remember all the men and women who have fought to keep our freedom that “freedom isn’t free”.    Over the 250 years of our nation’s history, hundreds-of-thousands have given their lives for our freedom.  And whether on Memorial Day or any other day, we should be ever grateful for price that these men and women have paid.
God is the author of freedom.  He desires for every person to experience TRUE FREEDOM.  Whether one lives in a free nation or not, ALL can experience true freedom that is found only in Christ Jesus.   Soldiers bravely put their lives on the line to save their country, but Jesus Christ gave His life to the save the world–to give us true freedom.  Jesus reminds us, “So if the Son set you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36).
2 Timothy 2:1-4
You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.
John 15:12-14
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
