SUNDAY LESSON, 1/22/23 (Some sound issues this morning)
APPLICATION OF GOD’S WISDOM
James 3:13-18
This Sunday I will be concluding the sermon series: GOD’S WISDOM.
We started this series from Proverbs 1 studying the words of the wiseman Solomon as he personifed Wisdom as a woman in the streets calling out to those who passby to listen and give heed to the divine counsel that she has to share. In the first lesson we looked at how God’s Wisdom is readily AVAILABLE in many forms. But, then, as we learned in the seond lesson that although wisdom is readily available, she is often IGNORED resulting in dire consequences.
James, the half-brother of Jesus, picks up where Solomon left off writing about how Wisdom is to be APPLIED by the way we relate to others. James reveals the distinction between GODLY WISDOM and WORLDLY WISDOM, both made evident by how we treat or mistreat one another.
Come join us this Sunday as we look at the practical side of wisdom from the writings of James as it APPLIES to our day-to-day relationships.
JAMES 3:13-18
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. 18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
