SUNDAY LESSON, 5/12/24 (MOTHER’S DAY)
GODLY INFLUENCE OF A MOM
1 Samuel 1-2
This Sunday is Mother’s Day, and I will be presenting a lesson on Hannah as we see the GODLY INFLUENCE that she had on her son, Samuel.
Many people are Christians today because of the direct influence of their mothers. In my 40+ years of pastoring churches in four different states, I have seen many mothers exhaustingly bring their children to worship every Sunday by themselves, because they were determined that their children learn about God and His Son Jesus even though their unbelieving husbands never once darken the church door. Those mothers wanted more than anything that their children be with them in heaven.
Hannah, unable to have children, prayed fervently to God that if He blessed her with a son she would turn right around and give her son back to Him. God gifted her with a son that she named Samuel. When Samuel was old enough to be weaned, Hannah kept her promise and dedicated her son into God’s service. Through Hannah’s godly influence, Samuel became a great prophet of God.
1 SAMUEL 1:10-11
10 In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. 11 And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head.”
