GOD WITH US BRINGS HOPE

CHRISTMAS SERMON SERIES
Starting December 1st thru Christmas Eve
GOD WITH US BRINGS HOPE
Isaiah 9:2-7 and Matthew 1:20-23

Throughout human history, heaven was God’s dwelling place, and except for a few personal encounters (as with Abraham, Hagar, and Jacob), He seemed far away to most people. Then the Lord came to the Israelites in a pillar of cloud and fire, and later in the tabernacle and temple. But in time, He would do something new and even more remarkable: He would come to earth and live as a man.
The prophet Isaiah, 700 years before Jesus was born, prophesied that a virgin will give birth to a son and call Him “Immanuel”which means “God with us” (Isaiah 7:14; Matthew 1:23).   That name reveals to the world that God will take on humanity in the form of a tiny baby and live among us, revealing God’s HOPEPEACEJOY and LOVE.
Come join us Sunday as we begin our new Christmas series: GOD WITH US.
ISAIAH 9:2, 6-7
The people walking in darkness
    have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned…For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
    Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the greatness of his government and peace
    there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
    and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
    with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
    will accomplish this.

MATTHEW 1:20-23

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[a] because he will save his people from their sins.”

22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” [Isaiah 7:14]–which means “God with us”).
