DON'T GIVE UP: OBSTACLE COURSE

Speaker: Fred Sigle

SUNDAY LESSON, 10/30/22

DON’T GIVE UP: OBSTACLE COURSE
Hebrews 12:1-3 and selected passages from Nehemiah

“…let us run with perseverance the race marked out before us” (Hebrews 12:1b).
The Christian Race that the Hebrew writer describes is not a casual jog in the park, it is a race full of obstacles that we face almost daily—some we are able to get through rather easily and others take much more effort.  That is why the writer urges us to “persevere”.
As we studied the men and women of faith of Hebrews 11 that the writer described as “a great cloud of witnesses”, we saw the many obstacles they faced in their race to the finish line.  Among them were Noah, Abraham, Joseph, Moses, and many more—some un-named.   One that is not on the list but was certainly a man of faith, was Nehemiah.  He was a man determined to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem when it was destroyed by the Babylonians when they invaded and captured the Israelites centuries before.   In his quest to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem, Nehemiah faced many obstacles.  However, he persevered and DIDN’T GIVE UP until the wall was finished.
Come join us Sunday as we study the perseverance of Nehemiah through one obstacle after another, and learn what we can to do to “run with perseverance the race marked out before us”.
