CHRISTIAN RACE: FINISHING STRONG
Hebrews 12:1-3
Last Sunday we studied from 2 Timothy 4:6-8 and 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 as Paul described his life of following and serving Jesus as a race–the Christian race. He described the important of running the win the prize of eternal life through proper godly training and discipline. And as he comes closer to the time of his execution for preaching Jesus, Paul looks over his life and said, “I have fought the good, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
This Sunday we will learn from the writer of Hebrews what we, even as Paul, can do to FINISH STRONG the Christian race that began when we gave our lives to Christ in baptism. Some of us we have been running the race for a long time and the “finish line” to eternal life is just a short time away, and others are just beginning the race. Either way, we have to keep our sights on the goal to be like Jesus so that we can win the prize of an eternal home with God in heaven.
Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
