SUNDAY LESSON, 4/21/24
AUTHENTIC LOVE: LOVE IS NOT…
1 Corinthians 13:4-8a
Last Sunday we studied what the apostle Paul said AUTHENTIC LOVE IS. Paul was reprimanding the Corintian church for their lack of love for each other as evidenced by their negative attitudes and actions. But not only does he describe what loving like Christ (agape love) looks like, he also describes what it doesn’t look like.
Undoubtedly, what Paul points out “LOVE IS NOT”, was the very ungodly attitudes and actions that the Christians at Corinth were demonstrating toward their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. But the painful truth is, in preparing for this sermon series the Holy Spirit has helped me to recognize many of my own unloving attitudes and actions that Paul emphasizes in this chapter, for which I have sought God’s forgiveness and strength to overcome.
Come join us Sunday as we study what Paul says “love is not”, and be prepared to recognize and repent of your own sinful attitudes and actions in your dealings with those around you.
1 CORINTHIANS 13:4-8a
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.
