A SON IS GIVEN: WONDERFUL COUNSELOR
Isaiah 9:6 and selected passages
I am starting a new sermon series this Sunday titled: “A SON IS GIVEN” based on Isaiah’s prophecy of the coming Christ child. In Isaiah 9:6, the prophet presents four unique names of the Son of God that he prophesied would be born to a virgin (Isaiah 7:14). And for the next four weeks we will be studying each of those names of the Christ child and reveal what they mean to us as Christ’s followers. We will begin with the first name on Isaiah’s list: “WONDERFUL COUNSELOR”.
By using the world “wonderful”, Isaiah wants us to understand this special child coming into the world is not an ordinary baby. In fact, there won’t be anything ordinary about Him from His birth to His death and ultimately His resurrection. Although the word used for “counselor” describes a typical counselor and his or her responsibilities, you add the word “wonderful” to it and you have a SUPERNATURAL COUNSELOR who knows exactly what we need physically, emotionally and spiritually and brings healing to our brokenness.

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
