CHRIST’S CHOSEN: TWELVE NOBODIES
Mark 3:13-19
This Sunday will be start of our new summer sermon series: CHRIST’S CHOSEN. In this series we will be studying each of the twelve apostles of Christ. Some are mentioned often in the gospels and throughout the letters of the New Testament, while others are mentioned in each gospel only once. So, needless to say, I will try to glean as much as I can from Scripture as we study the lives of each of these men.
This Sunday we will be studying from Mark’s gospel the day Jesus chose the men He wanted to serve as His apostles—the men that will be responsible in carrying out the gospel message that will literally change the course of history. And being the Son of God who knows the hearts of all men, you just know that Jesus chose the bravest, strongest, smartest and most righteous group of men that He could find. Well, think again! After much thought and prayer, Jesus called the men that He wanted to change the world who turned out to be TWELVE NOBODIES.
If you have ever thought that God can’t use someone like you in His kingdom, then you need to join us as we look at the “nobodies” who became CHRIST’S CHOSEN.
MARK 3:13-19
Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve[a] that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons. 16 These are the twelve he appointed: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter), 17 James son of Zebedee and his brother John (to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means “sons of thunder”), 18 Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Thaddaeus, Simon the Zealot 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
