SUNDAY LESSON, 2/4/24
PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS: INSATIABLE CRAVING
Matthew 5:6; John 6:53-56
The fourth beatitude Jesus presents that produces true happiness, is that of “hungering and thirsting after righteousness.”
Throughout this sermon series we have seen that in people’s pursuit of happiness they always fall short. They pursue physical things of this world that they mistakenly believe bring lasting fulfillment, such as power, popularity and possessions. We know of people whom have achieved all these things, and, yet, still live empty lives.
The truth is, we can never be satisfied with physical things of the world, because this INSATIABLE CRAVING that every human being has is spiritual, not physical. We are not created as physical beings who are given a spirit, but spiritual beings who are given a body. Therefore, being created in the image of God we are made to yearn for Him, to know Him, to love Him and be loved by Him. We are made to hunger and thirst after righteousness, and only in Him can we be filled.
Come join us Sunday as we study the fourth beatitude: “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.”
MATTHEW 5:6
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be filled.
for they will be filled.
JOHN 6:35
Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
JOHN 6:53-56
Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. 55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
