TOUCHING THE UNTOUCHABLES: THE LEPER
Matthew 8:1-4

I am starting a new sermon series this Sunday titled: “TOUCHING THE UNTOUCHABLES”.  We will be looking at how Jesus lovingly cared for those who were shunned (the untouchables) by many people of the day and, especially, the religious leaders.
Every society has its UNTOUCHABLES—those who just don’t fit.  Some are shunned because they don’t meet society’s standards—the disabled, the diseased, the poor, the homeless, the racially different, etc..  Others, whose lifestyles don’t conform to the teachings of Christ, are often avoided by religionists who would prefer they stay far away rather than make an effort to reach out to them with the transforming message of Jesus.
Jesus came to save lost people, no matter what society and religionists thought about it.  He went about touching the lives of the untouchables, leaving us an example to emulate in our day-to-days dealings with people—including the untouchables.
Come join us Sunday as we study how Jesus touched the life of a leper who was forbidden by the Law of Moses to literally touch.
MATTHEW 8:1-4

When Jesus came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him. A man with leprosy[a] came and knelt before him and said, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.”

Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately he was cleansed of his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him, “See that you don’t tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
