THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS: PEACE

Speaker: Fred Sigle

SUNDAY LESSON, 12/4/22

THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS: PEACE
Luke 2:8-14 and John 14:27

This Sunday we will delve into the second lesson of the series: “THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS” as we study about the PEACE that the coming of Christ as a tiny infant brought to the people of the world.

“Peace on earth to men on whom His favor rests”, the angels sang on the night Jesus was born.  That was 2,000 years ago and this world is still not at peace; in fact, we seem to be more divided than ever.  Jesus told His disciples that the peace He gives is not as the world gives (John 14:27).  The peace Christ came to give is far more impacting than the cessation of war, conflict and turmoil.
Christ came to this earth for the express purpose to bring peace between humankind and God.  Paul describes us as “enemies of God” (Romans 5:10) because of our sinful rebellion against our Creator.  But God sent Jesus as our “Peace Offering” to die on a cross so that through His cleansing blood we can be justified (made right) and be at peace with Him—no longer His enemies, but His children.

Come join us Sunday as we learn more about the peace that Christ came to give.
LUKE 2:8-14

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”

JOHN 14:27

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
