SUNDAY LESSON, 6/12/22
PREPARE FOR WAR: THE SOLDIER
Ephesians 6:10-13
Last Sunday we began the Summer Sermon Series titled “PREPARE FOR WAR” by taking a below-the-surface look at THE BATTLE that is waging in the heavens. Although it is not a physical battle that we can see, we are not only greatly impacted by it spiritually, but physically, mentally and emotionally, as well. Each of us bear the battle wounds and scars from the skirmishes we’ve been in.
This Sunday I want to shift the focus from THE BATTLE to THE SOLDIER on the battlefield–you and me. In Paul’s letters to the churches, he often referred to Christians as “soldiers” fighting in the battle that Satan, our enemy, is waging against God and His church. He told the young preacher Timothy to “endure hardship…like a good soldier of Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 2:3).
In our text, God our sovereign King gives battle orders to us as Soldiers of Christ to prepare us for a war that will determine either our eternal victory or eternal defeat.
EPHESIANS 6:10-13
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
