SUNDAY LESSON, 5/1/22
What is perspective? Obviously, it is related to the way we view something.
When you see a glass half-filled with water, what do you think? Is it half empty, or is it half full? It all depends on your perspective. Our perspective shape us: how we think, how we engage with people, how we act or react in any given situation. Perspective creates opportunity to achieve great things, or it can hinder our progress and restrict us.
This was certainly the case for the army of Israel as they were challenged to put forth a champion to fight the mighty Philistine warrior named Goliath; the army of the loser would serve the army of the winner. However, from their worldly perspective the fight was lost even before it began. All they could see was a giant of a man who was unbeatable.
Then enter a young shepherd named David who overheard and accepted the challenge. From the worldly perspective of Goliath (and also the Israelites) David would be squashed like a bug and fed to the birds. But from David’s spiritual perspective, it was no contest between Goliath and Mighty God.
We all have Goliaths in our lives, difficult situations and problems that seem insurmountable. How we deal with and respond to these giant obstacles depends on our perspective. We can either be paralyzed by fear or move forward in faith.
Come join us Sunday as we take a fresh look at the classic Biblical account of David and Goliath from both a worldly and godly perspective.
