THE CROSS: SATAN’S DEFEAT
Hebrews 2:14-18; Colossians 2:15; Geneses 3:15

The day Jesus was crucified upon the cross appeared that Satan had won.  HE KILLED THE SON OF GOD!
There was no celebration among the followers of Jesus.  Mary wept over her son, not understanding how the child that was conceived by God Himself could possibly be hanging lifelessly on the cross.  The apostles were confused, distraught and fearful of what now will happen to them since Jesus was dead.
Undoubtedly, Satan was rather happy with himself.  The plot to kill the Son of God that he put in motion starting with Judas (John 13:2) went off without a hitch.  Jesus is dead!  Satan is victorious.  Or, so he thought. Little did Satan realize that by killing Jesus on the cross, he was the one being defeated.
Hebrews 2:14-18
14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like them,[a] fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
Colossians 2:15
“And having disarmed the powers and authorities [Satan and his minions], He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
Genesis 3:15
And I will put enmity
    between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring[a] and hers;
he will crush[b] your head,
    and you will strike his heel.”
